[ARCHIVED] July 6, 2018 - UPDATE #30 - Hall Street Project - Phase II

30-HallStreetProgressUpdate

Hall Street Project Update for the Week of July 9-13th

After the long weekend, there was a flurry of activity along the Hall Street corridor. A second prime contractor, MarWest Industries Ltd., has been contracted to work uphill, south of the CP Rail tracks. They have implemented their traffic management plan, closing Hall Street south of the tracks to the highway. Construction site signage was erected along the arterial highway extending from Ward/Vernon to Front/Cherry Streets, establishing a work zone at Front and Hall Streets. MarWest has begun to remove pavement to locate gas lines and existing infrastructure in preparation for the install of new storm works.

McNally Excavating, the prime contractor for works north of the CP Rail tracks, concentrated on shallow utility work along the periphery of the newly paved road, in preparation for placement of new sidewalks. Sidewalk and additional curb and gutter work is scheduled for mid to late next week. Access to both the Gateway Building complex (701 Front/115 Hall St) and the large brick building at 625 Front Street will remain accessible via Lakeside Drive and the newly laid pavement across the CP Rail tracks. Custom way-finding signage is erected at the Cedar/Lakeside intersection and a sandwich board placed at Lakeside/Hall to let people know that the Hall and Lakeside Drive businesses remain accessible and OPEN!

Additional custom signage is scheduled for erection next Wednesday.

McNally’s schedule for next week is governed by the mid-week arrival of the concrete subcontractor for placement of new curb/gutter and sidewalks. The shallow utility work must be complete prior to sidewalk placement. Detours are not contemplated for Lakeside Drive or Hall Street north of the tracks; however, the 3-way stop will remain in place. Although minor disruption is anticipated, access to the launch club, marina, wharf and Prestige Lakeside Resort will remain as is.

MarWest intends to remove the traffic lights at Front/Hall to make way for new infrastructure including new signals. The ‘east/west only’ traffic lanes along Front Street through the construction zone will remain. Pedestrians are advised to walk along Front Street either direction of Hall Street, rather than trying to cross through the construction zone at Hall Street. Infrastructure work scheduled for next week includes installation of storm infrastructure at the intersection of Hall and Front Street where large excavations are anticipated in close proximity to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Please exercise caution when passing through the contractor’s cone zone.

The Cedar Street detour remains open to provide access to businesses along Lakeside Drive, including businesses on Hall Street near the CP Rail tracks. MarWest’s construction zone in the 100 block of Hall Street is set up so that access across the CP Rail tracks to both the Gateway Building and the Brick building across the street at 625 Front Street is available from Lakeside Drive.
