Stores-To-Shores Downtown Revitalization: Hall Street Project Re-Cap
October 18, 2018
The Hall Street project addressed two important community goals:
1) renewing end of life or inadequate infrastructure, and;
2) creating an important link between Nelson’s two most important amenities, the downtown and waterfront.
When asphalt (pavement) reaches the end of its life, it’s very important that the underground infrastructure is assessed as well. In this case, the ongoing flooding at the intersection of Hall and Front streets made it critical that the underground utilities be addressed. Government grants, coupled with the City building up adequate reserves, allowed this project to be completed with no impact on taxation or utility rates. It is important to note that 80% of the work completed was infrastructure renewal work, and with grants, the City was also able to beautify the Hall Street corridor.
Here's a snap-shot of all the things we have done as part of the Hall Street project.
