Nelson Hydro wishes to advise our customers of an increase to our electrical rates for 2019.
The planned rate change will be a rate increase of 1.5% effective Monday April 1, 2019 for the urban residential and commercial customers through all rate classes and a 2.94% increase for the rural residential and commercial customers through all rate classes.
The 1.5% urban rate increase on Monday April 1 will result in an effective rate increase of approximately 1.036% for the calendar year. Nelson City Council gave the final reading of the bylaw and passed this motion on Monday March 25th, 2019.
The 2.94% rural rate increase on Monday April 1 will result in an effective rate increase of approximately 2.03% for the calendar year. The rural rate increase was approved on an interim basis by the British Columbia Utilities Commission based on the application by Nelson Hydro which was submitted on March 8th, 2019.
For additional clarification, Nelson Hydro is owned and operated by the City of Nelson and serves customers both within and outside the City of Nelson’s municipal boundaries.
The customers that Nelson Hydro serves within its municipal boundaries, are exempt from BCUC regulation under the Utilities Commission Act and are governed by the City’s Municipal Act. The BCUC’s review of the Application pertains solely to Nelson Hydro’s non-municipal, or rural, customers.
