[ARCHIVED] UPDATE: Watermain Extension for Selous Creek

2020-07-16 08.50.56

The installation of the waterline along the Great Northern Trail, south of Mountain Station parking lot is complete. The ditching and installation of culverts is complete and the side slopes have been groomed and hydroseeded. On Friday, July 17, Selkirk Paving Ltd. will mobilize to site to surface the trail south of the parking lot up to the point where construction commenced near the top of Stanley Street. The surfacing is anticipated for Friday and Saturday, but will likely extend into Monday, July 20 as well. This portion of trail south of the parking lot will be closed to accomplish the works. The bypass along South Sheppard road is available for use while the trail is closed for surfacing. Traffic control personnel will be on-site at the Mountain Station Parking lot while SPL surfaces the trail.

The portion of the trail north of the parking lot will remain in its current state for approximately a month, as the construction crew is currently working near the Mountain Station water treatment facility installing pipe adjacent to the reservoir. Once the reservoir works are complete, the crew will return to the Great Northern Trail to finish the portion of the trail north of the parking lot. The works adjacent to the reservoir are substantial and the area will be extremely busy over the next couple of months. Detours or closures of the roads or trails near the reservoir are not anticipated. Please be mindful of the construction zones, traffic control personnel and all construction signage.

This photo is of the trail, taken from the Mountain Station parking lot, looking south. This is the portion of the trail that will be closed for resurfacing on July 17, 18, and 20. The South Sheppard bypass route will be the detour route during this time.
