The City’s contractor, YRB, will be completing dust control on the 12 km of unpaved city laneways over the coming week, weather permitting. For this work, YRB will apply a calcium chloride brine solution to loose road surfaces. Application of calcium chloride is a common and time-tested method to suppress dust from loose road surfaces. It is a naturally occurring hygroscopic solution that attracts moisture in the air and forms a solution that keeps the road surface damp, reducing dust, even during extended dry and hot conditions. Immediately following application of the calcium chloride solution, the road surface will appear wet, and you should avoid prolonged skin contact and keep pets from walking on the wet ground. If you or your pet are exposed to the wet product, please wash skin thoroughly with fresh water.
To facilitate safe, efficient and effective dust control operations, please ensure that you remove any encroaching personal belongings, vehicles or vegetation from the laneway.
Thank you for your cooperation.
