[ARCHIVED] Update: Watermain Extension for Selous Creek

September 25 2020

From September 8th through September 18th, Kays Road Contracting Ltd. crossed the Great Northern Trail at the Hoover Street Right-of-Way (ROW) and extended the watermain along the steep slope above the old rail grade. A repetitive dull thudding sound, heard across the City, ongoing for the last few weeks, is coming from a large rock hammer, attached to the subcontractor's largest excavator. This large machine has been able to maintain the alignment and depth of the utility trenches without having to drill and blast. The use of the hammer has enabled the pipelaying crew to maintain their pace and despite the rock, keep the project on schedule.

Current work is concentrated along the Hoover ROW above the GNT, with little if any disruption to trail users.  The contractor is working to accommodate the few residents along the Hoover ROW and other than rock hammer noise, and access for the immediate residents. Little disruption is anticipated.

Hil-Tech Contracting Ltd. has taken over the Prime Contractor role at the Mountain Station reservoir site for construction of the valve control structure. This work is entirely within the fenced perimeter of the reservoir site on City of Nelson property, so little if any disruption to the public is anticipated. Hil-Tech has mobilized to site and set up a site office. Their shallow utility work is already complete and they are preparing to construct a concrete structure.

With two contractor crews working near the Mountain Station reservoir, Mountain Road will see increased traffic. Please be mindful of the construction zones, traffic control personnel and all construction signage.
