PUBLIC ADVISORY
Phase 1 of the construction of the City’s Emergency Water Intake has begun. This work is taking place on the west-end of the dog park along the lake. The expected completion is the end of March or early April 2018. There is currently no access to the dog walk on the west-end of Lakeside Drive. Trail users can still access approximately 1 km of trail from the east-end near the Prestige Lakeside Resort.
We are asking dog owners and other users of the trail to obey all signs for their safety as there are construction projects in progress on either end of the dog walk. Due to construction in the parking lot at the foot of Hall Street, the dog walk trail access may be restricted for short periods of time for safety reasons.
The Emergency Water Intake will allow water to be drawn from Kootenay Lake to a temporary and modular satellite treatment system, which can provide drinking water for the lower part of the city. The system is only intended to be operational during severe drought or other emergency events.
We appreciate your patience while we complete these important projects. Also, as a friendly reminder, be sure to use the biodegradable dog waste bags provided at the dog walk entrance to pick-up after your pets.
