FIRE FLOW TESTING OF WATER DISTRIBUTION
November 19, 2018
Fire Flow Testing of our water distribution system is taking place Monday, November 19th in the afternoon.
Testing will take place at two locations: Downtown and Railtown.
Fire Flow testing involves operating hydrants and measuring flow, static and residual pressure. The tests are used to assess the adequacy of water pressure and volume that the distribution system is capable of providing for fighting fires. These tests are also good indicators of the condition of the water system and can indicate problems related to valves and/or deterioration of aging pipes.
Residents and businesses may experience minor discolouration to their water while flow testing is being conducted. The City of Nelson urges customers to check their water quality BEFORE beginning laundry or other household tasks. Discoloured water does not pose a health hazard and can be remedied by running your cold water taps until the water runs clear.
