[ARCHIVED] Update: Watermain Extension for Selous Creek

August 21 2020 2

The prime contractor for the Selous Creek watermain extension project, Kays Road Contracting Ltd. has been working at installing water lines in and around the Mountain Station reservoir site for the past month. Contractually this work needs to be complete in early September so that the site can be handed over to Hil-Tech Contracting Ltd. The remaining works at the reservoir site, contracted to Hil-Tech, involves valve controls, instrumentation, SCADA systems, and a valve control structure to house all this equipment. Kays Contracting is currently on schedule and plans to leave the reservoir site to Hil-Tech in the first week of September.

This past week, Kays Contracting has mobilized into the Hoover Street Right-of-Way to start clearing, grubbing, and trail building, ahead of the trenching and pipe laying.

Next week, starting Monday morning, the trail through the City of Nelson’s Lot K, which accesses Anderson Creek Timber property via the yellow gate, just above the reservoir, will be closed. The closure of this access should only last a few days. Periodic work along the Great Northern Trail, either side of the Mountain Station parking lot, is also anticipated; however, closures or detours are not contemplated for next week, as users will be directed around the immediate work zones.

The week of August 31 to September 4 is likely to be more disruptive to trail users as Kays Contracting will be working on the Hoover Street ROW near the GNT and may need to close the trail for safety reasons.

Other than the gated access to Anderson Creek Timber property, detours or closures of the roads or trails is not contemplated in the upcoming week; however, the road and parking areas adjacent to the reservoir will be occupied with materials and equipment and remains a very busy work site. Please be mindful of the construction zones, traffic control personnel and all construction signage.
