Recovery Operations Centre Update: Covid-19

Confirmed cases in BC are continuing to increase. Confirmed cases in the Interior region and more specifically the Kootenay Boundary Health Service Delivery Area remain low. Social gatherings are where we are seeing significant transmission of COVID-19 in our province. Even though our numbers remain low, it’s important to not become complacent.

Remember the basics. Keep your group small, wash your hands, carry a mask just in case you need it and if you feel sick stay home. Enjoy your weekend Nelson!

Where are we at?

According to the BC Centre for Disease Control (CDC), new case count numbers have been generally stable in the Interior in the past few weeks. The number of new cases per week has been somewhere between 15 to 30.

Joint statement on B.C.’s COVID-19 response – Latest Update:

Key points:

  • 274 new cases in BC – Highest day total
  • 1,920 active cases
  • 71 individuals hospitalized (24 in intensive care units)
  • Social gatherings are where we are seeing significant transmission of COVID-19 in our province.
  • The new cases stemming from social gatherings are now spilling over and causing clusters and outbreaks in long-term care facilities, workplaces and schools right across our province.
  • This means that right now, every gathering, event or occasion needs to be small. We need to stick with our immediate household and safe six only

COVID Halloween tips from the BCCDC:

  • Skip Halloween parties this year.
  • Trick or treating in small groups can be a safe and fun activity.
  • Get creative in making space when handing out treats.
