Councillor Brittny Anderson provided her formal resignation from Nelson City Council on Monday, December 14th, 2020. 

The resignation of a Councillor triggers the by-election process. Staff will bring a report to Council at the January 12, 2021, Regular Council meeting to appoint the Chief Elections Officer. This appointment triggers the beginning of the City of Nelson by-election, whereby general voting day must take place within 80 days. 

Staff anticipate general voting day will be on Saturday, March 27, 2021. 

Nomination packages will be available online or for pick-up from City Hall after January 12th, 2021. 

There will be notice in the local paper of the beginning of the election and nomination period.
